Find joy in the journey and hold onto hope that better days are ahead
The story of Life gets better.
“Life Gets Better” is a phrase that is near and dear to my heart. It has allowed me to hold onto the hope that better days are ahead.
During college I was diagnosed with multiple chronic illnesses. Having rare vascular compressions is an exhausting journey that a lot of people — including doctors — don’t fully understand. I have been hospitalized so many times that I’ve lost count. I’ve had three open abdominal surgeries, countless procedures, hospital admissions, surgeries, central lines, feeding tubes, medical ports, IV nutrition, blood infections, sepsis, and so much more. There have been many moments where I have felt so discouraged, isolated, angry, sad, and lonely.
When life keeps giving so many hard moments, it’s easy to get discouraged. It is so important to hold onto the moments and the little things that bring you joy and make your heart happy. It is okay to cry and mourn the life you used to have, but learning to live your life through the hard times is just as important. Doing something small for yourself each day that brings you joy is very beneficial.
I feel like sometimes people think that their lives have to look a certain way before they can live them to the fullest, BUT this is not true. We all need to live in the NOW! Through the hardest times of my life, I have also experienced some of the most joy I’ve ever had in my life. I truly believe that Life Gets Better!
The goal of Life gets better is provide hope and encouragement to people while raising awareness for rare diseases through our blog! I have met so many amazing people through this journey and I want to share their stories! Everyone has a story and we would love to hear yours.
Love,
Erin
